Join UCLA Luskin’s HomeWalk Team

For the third consecutive year the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs is organizing a team for the United Way’s “HomeWalk,” a 5K walk/run to help end homelessness. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Exposition Park.

Luskin Dean Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. is helping grow the Team UCLA Luskin by covering the registration fee for the first 75 members who sign up. To receive your free registration code, please email Allison Morris at: amorris@luskin.ucla.edu

Last year Team UCLA Luskin raised over $12,000 for the event, the tops among any University squad. To see a video and recap of the 2012 event, please click here. This year’s goal is to raise over $15,000.

The top five UCLA Luskin fundraisers will receive a UCLA sweatshirt and any team member who raises over $100 will receive a UCLA Luskin T-shirt or hat. Also, the top department to raise money via Team UCLA Luskin will receive a pizza celebration and 10 bonus points for the upcoming Quiz Bowl.

Helping to lead Team UCLA Luskin are students from each of the School’s three departments: Martha Washo, Public Policy; Linnea Koopmans, Social Welfare; and Sheela Bhongir, Urban Planning. These student leaders have also organized and have been running the “Can Los Angeles Really End Homelessness” series.

Homelessness is the most extreme form of poverty. The current economic environment and growing inequality only exacerbates this problem. With over 58,000 homeless in Los Angeles County, it is the homeless capital of the nation, including 20,000 women and children and 9,000 military veterans.
