Complete Streets Initiative Announces Completion Of Spring Street Parklet Evaluation
The Spring Street Parklet Evaluation Report, produced in collaboration with Parklet Studies, examines a myriad of changes and opinions around the two parklets installed in downtown Los Angeles. The data collected includes counts of pedestrians and cyclists, activity mapping on the street and in the parklet, surveys from users and pedestrians and interviews with business owners in the area. Pedestrian volumes remained fairly stable over the pre- and post-installation time. The parklet was most frequently used in the evenings and on the weekends, where users walked to the site from about five minutes away. The evaluation found the parklet to prove itself an asset to the community and recommends that the City of Los Angeles move forward with allowing these innovative projects in more neighborhoods.
